Australian SAA certification
Certification
summary:
Australian
standards bodies for Standards Association of Australian, in fact, SAA just
standard setting bodies, rather than product certification certificate. SAA
later renamed: StandardsAustraliaLimited. The SAA is an independent corporation
and has no direct relationship with the government, but the federal and state
governments are members.
Introduction to Australian SAA certification:
The
Australian standard begins with "AS" and the joint Australia-New
Zealand standard begins with "AS/NZS". Australian and New Zealand
standards are generally consistent with the IEC, although there are some
national differences. Australia and New Zealand promote the unification of
standards and mutual recognition of certification, products as long as the
certification of one country can be sold in another country.
Certification/Supervisory Bodies:
Australia is
a federal country, and the certification, control and management of electrical
safety and energy consumption requirements are carried out by the
RegulatoryAuthority of each state or region in accordance with the
certification procedures of the state/region. A certificate issued by any state
is valid in any other state without any additional formalities. In addition, a
wholly owned subsidiary of SAA standard setting bodies QAS
(QualityAssuranceServicesPtyLtd) is Australia's NCB (NationalCertificationBody),
issued by the certificate to the states or regions admit that, it has the same
effect.
Product safety certification:
Australia
does not have a unified safety certification mark, and each state or region has
provided for the management of electrical products in the form of legislation.
Although the name and date of enactment vary, the content of electrical safety
legislation is basically the same in each state or territory. Electrical
products are divided into regulated electrical (prescribedproduct) and
non-regulated products (Non-prescribedproduct).
1.
Controlled electrical products are divided according to AS/NZS4417.
2, including
electric heating equipment, refrigeration equipment, power tools, parts and so
on.
The list is
published in the government Gazette and is increased according to the actual
situation. Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria are the most active in the
certification process. In Queensland, for example, the Electricity Act
(TheElectricityAct 1994) announces detailed requirements for the certification,
sale and use of electrical appliances.
1. Controlled electrical appliances:
Controlled
electrical appliances must be forced to obtain a certificateofapproval issued
by the monitoring department, and require identification (must be Shanghai book
number). It should be noted that the certification process is only for safety
and not for performance or quality, unless it is related to security. The first
letter of the certificate number indicates which state or territory issued the
certificate. Such as:
Q91610(Queensland)
W2015(Western Australia )
NSW10422(New South Wales ) Originally
N numbe
rSAI:TE4215 (New South Wales )
V05197 (Victoria )
S442 (South Australia )
A050 (Australian Capital Territory)
T05123 (Tasmania )
2. Non-regulated electrical appliances:
Although
non-regulated products are not mandatory to obtain certification, their safety
is the responsibility of the seller/manufacturer and can voluntarily apply for
certification. The monitoring department will issue a Certificate of
Suitability for products that meet the requirements of the standard. Electrical
products that have obtained a certificate of conformity can be marked with a
Shanghai book number, and the last letter of the certificate shows which state
or region issued the certificate, such as:
CS/431/Q(Queensland)
CS/108/N(New South Wales)
