Energy Efficiency Standard for SASO2870
Light Source
The SASO2 870 standard issued by Saudi Standards Bureau in June 2015 sets energy efficiency, performance and labeling requirements for all kinds of directional and non-directional lighting sources with luminous flux of 60-12,000 lumens. The standard covers:
.Tungsten filament bulbs,
Self-ballasting energy-saving lamps (CFLi)
Halogen bulbs
Replacement of tungsten filament LED bulbs,
Replacement of LED bulbs for halogen lamps
Non-replaceable LED lamps with light sources
It was formally enforced on August 1, 2016.
The new Saudi Customs Notice of October 2016, which falls into the following customs codes for light source products, falls within the compulsory scope of SASO 2870:
853910000001 – 853910000002 – 853910009999 – 853921000001 – 853921000002
853921000003 – 853921000004 – 853922000001 – 853922000002 – 853929000001
853929000002 – 853929000003 – 853929000004 – 853931000001 – 853931000002

bulbs, the expected use of the product must be clearly stated in the packaging
and other information provided, and the product is not suitable for ordinary
household lighting.
3. For light bulbs for general
household or similar purposes, the criteria are mainly assessed as follows:
Light bulb energy efficiency
level: mainly divided into A, B, C, D, E, F and G seven levels.
Performance
requirements of bulbs: such as life, lumen maintenance, switch cycle, start-up
time, color rendering index and power factor, etc.
The following
information must be displayed on the bulb: trademark, input voltage, rated
power, country of origin. The above information must be clearly labeled in
English and/or Arabic on labels, packaging, instructions and websites.
Assessment
requirements for hazardous substances in light bulbs include lead (Pb), cadmium
(Cd), chromium (Cr6+), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl
ethers (PBDE) and mercury.
Energy
Efficiency Label Requirements: The label must be on the package and be clearly
visible to consumers.
Notices for Inspection
1. Printing origin of products and
packaging: Made in China, MADE in CHINA (note writing)
2. Voltage and frequency should include:
220V/180V, 60Hz, e.g. 220-240V-50/60Hz.
3. Plug must be BS1363 plug

assessment body for illuminated products.
- CoC products have been issued before January 1, 2019, and can still be
used before March 30, 2019. Since April 1, 2019, all lighting products need to
obtain SAU IECEE certificate (CoPC).
- Starting today, all lighting products will be issued SAU IECEE
certificate.
