Introduction to the ROHS Directive
RoHS is a mandatory standard
formulated by the European Union legislation, its full name is the Directive on
the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (Restriction of Hazardous Substances).
The standard has been officially implemented on July 1, 2006, mainly used to
regulate the material and process standards of electronic and electrical
products, so that it is more conducive to human health and environmental
protection. The purpose of the standard is to eliminate lead Pb, isolated Cd,
mercury Hg, hexvalent chromium Cr6+, polybrominated diphenyl ethers PBDE,
polybrominated biphenyls PBB in electrical and electronic products, a total of
6 substances, and focus on the content of lead can not exceed 0.1%. On June 4,
2015, the European side officially listed Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP),
tolyl butyl phthalate (BBP), dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and diisobutyl phthalate
(DIBP) in the list of restricted substances in Appendix II, so far a total of
ten mandatory controlled substances in Appendix II. It became mandatory on July
22, 2019.

The
latest European ROHS2.0 directive
On June 4, 2015, the Official
Journal of the European Union (OJ) issued the revised RoHS2.0 Directive
(EU)2015/863, which officially listed DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIBP in the list of
restricted substances in Appendix II, so far there are ten mandatory controlled
substances in Appendix II. See the following table:
Limited substance limit (mass fraction)
<!--[if !supportLineBreakNewLine]-->
<!--[endif]-->
<!--[if !supportLists]-->① <!--[endif]-->Lead (Pb) 0.1%
<!--[if !supportLists]-->② <!--[endif]-->Mercury (Hg) 0.1%
<!--[if !supportLists]-->③ <!--[endif]-->Cadmium (Cd) 0.01%
<!--[if !supportLists]-->④ <!--[endif]-->Hexavalent chromium (Cr VI) 0.1%
<!--[if !supportLists]-->⑤ <!--[endif]-->Polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) 0.1%
<!--[if !supportLists]-->⑥ <!--[endif]-->Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) 0.1%
<!--[if !supportLists]-->⑦ <!--[endif]-->Di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) 0.1%
<!--[if !supportLists]-->⑧ <!--[endif]-->Tolyl butyl phthalate (BBP) 0.1%
<!--[if !supportLists]-->⑨ <!--[endif]-->Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) 0.1%
<!--[if !supportLists]-->⑩ <!--[endif]-->Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP) 0.1%
Following the publication of this
revised Directive, EU Member States have until 31 December 2016 to transpose
this Directive into national legislation and implement it. And from July 22,
2019, all electronic and electrical products exported to Europe (except medical
and monitoring equipment) must meet the restriction requirements; From July 22,
2021, medical devices (including in vitro medical devices) and monitoring
equipment (including industrial monitoring equipment) will also be included in
the scope of the control. In addition, toys that are already controlled by
phthalates in Article 51 of Annex XVII of REACH will not be controlled by DEHP,
BBP and DBP in this Directive.
Prepare ROHS test and certification documents
1). Only heavy metal detection: about 5-10g for solids and 5-10mL for liquids;
2). Only brominated flame retardants should be tested:
about 10-20g for solids and 10-20mL for liquids;
3). Heavy metal shipping organic pollutants detection:
provide about 20-30g samples;
4). Test for other organic pollutants: provide samples of
about 30g;
5). Only the sample of the coating (coating) part shall
be detected, and the approximate weight of the material part of the coating
(coating) shall be indicated; If the weight of the coating (coating) part does
not meet the requirements of the sample quantity, the coating (coating) raw
materials should be provided.
ROHS
factory inspection
No factory inspection is required,
but generally RoHS will require a one-year validity period. In fact, the RoHS
test report itself is only based on the analysis of the product, as long as
your product material, production process and process are unchanged, the test
report can be effective for a long time.。
ROHS covers a range of products
RoHS targets all electrical and
electronic products that may contain the above six hazardous substances in the
production process and raw materials, mainly including:
<!--[if !supportLists]-->1)
<!--[endif]-->Large household
appliances: refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, air conditioners,
white appliances, such as refrigerators, washing machines, microwave ovens, air
conditioners, vacuum cleaners, water heaters, etc
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2)
<!--[endif]-->Small household
appliances: vacuum cleaners, electric irons, hair dryers, ovens, clocks, etc.,
black appliances, such as audio and video products, DVD, CD, TV receivers, IT
products, digital products, communication products, etc.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->3)
<!--[endif]-->IT and
communication equipment: computer, fax machine, telephone, mobile phone, etc.,
power tools; Electric electronic toys; Medical electrical equipment.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->4)
<!--[endif]-->Civilian equipment:
radio, television, video, Musical Instruments, etc
<!--[if !supportLists]-->5)
<!--[endif]-->Lighting
appliances: in addition to home lighting outside the fluorescent lamps,
lighting control devices
<!--[if !supportLists]-->6)
<!--[endif]-->Power tools: drill,
lathe, welding, sprayer and so on
<!--[if !supportLists]-->7)
<!--[endif]-->Information
technology and telecommunications equipment (although in some countries
infrastructure equipment is exempt)
<!--[if !supportLists]-->8)
<!--[endif]-->Consumer devices.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->9)
<!--[endif]-->Lighting equipment,
including bulbs.

<!--[if !supportLists]-->11)
<!--[endif]-->Toys, leisure and
sports equipment.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->12)
<!--[endif]-->Medical Devices

Implementation of ROHS in various countries
<!--[if !supportLists]-->1. <!--[endif]-->RoHS standards adopted by countries around the world are based on IEC62321
standards
<!--[if !supportLists]-->2. <!--[endif]-->The new European RoHS certification Directive is CE/RoHS Certification
Directive 2011/65/EU.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->3. <!--[endif]-->The European CE-ROHS is mandatory and is a part of the other CE.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->4. <!--[endif]-->China RoHS is a voluntary certification.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->5. <!--[endif]-->The United States RoHS is a voluntary certification, and CPSC is mandatory.
<!--[if !supportLists]-->6.
<!--[endif]-->Japan RoHS is a
voluntary test.
