Radio frequency test

What test items should be carried out for RF products

In short, any RF product should be tested in two aspects.

1. RF aspect

2. EMC aspect

RF products differ from EMC in that RF products are deliberately emitted and EMC is unintentionally emitted. RF products use a certain frequency segment to transmit useful signals, so as to achieve the purpose of transmitting information. In addition to the useful signal will also produce different degrees of harmonic signals, so it is necessary to limit its useful signal (main frequency) and harmonic. Including Output Power, Power Density, Bandwidth, Frequency Error, Spurious Emissions and so on. EMC is an unintentional launch where functional or performance requirements are met. RF products in the normal operation of TX and RX connection, because its composition of the system will cause interference to other systems or individuals, so EMC testing is also essential. Test items include: Radiation, Conduction, Harmonics, Flick, EFT, Surge, Dips, ESD, CS, RS, etc. Different products choose different test items. For example, when testing EMC for battery-powered RF products, it is only necessary to test Radiation, ESD and RS.

Since May 1, 2004, the European Community has added 10 Member States, including Malta, Slovenia, Cyprus, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, so the effect of the R&TTE Directive will be extended to these additional Member States. Before communication terminal equipment and wireless products can be legally sold in these countries, they must be tested and approved in accordance with the R&TTE Directive, and they must also have a CE-mark.

When wireless products are to be sold in the Member States of the European Community, certain details must be taken into account. Because the Member States of the European Union have historically developed independently, the frequency bands opened by each country may be different, so in the EU region, some frequency bands still need to be unified. Fortunately, at the same time, there are many frequency bands that are already harmonised in the old EU Member States. However, wireless products that are specified for use outside the harmonised frequency band (the so-called Category 2 product -Class 2-equipment) must go through a prescribed reporting procedure. By filing, the equipment wholesaler (or manufacturer) informs the frequency authority of the Member State that the product is intended to be placed on the market in that country. The competent authorities have four weeks to file an objection, and if no objection is made during this period, the product may be marketed in those countries. The product, packaging and documentation attached to the product must clearly state the operating restrictions. In addition, CE-mark and Alert-Symbol must be attached to the product and packaging.
