Introduction to IRAM and S-Mark certification in Argentina
Introduction to
IRAM and S-Mark certification in Argentina
Founded in 1935, IRAM is a
non-profit private association. As the national standard institution of
Argentina, it also provides certification services independently.
IRAM is Argentina's representative in:
ISO——National Standards Organization
0P0DAMN——MERCOSUR Standards Institute
COPANT—PAN—American Technical Standards Committee
It also manages the Electronic Technology Association of Argentina and the
National Committee of IEC Argentina

Field and certificate of IRAM
certification in Argentina
IRAM has been a certification body
since the 1960s, and now it certifies products in the following fields:
*electronic technique
*Mechanics
*Chemistry
*hygiene
*Safety and protection
*Toys
*Gas
*Hoisting machinery
*food
*Medicine and so on, as well as quality and environmental management system.
It is the CB (certification body)
of electronic technology products recognized by OAA (Argentina) and also the
certification body of compulsory certification products recognized by the
government. It is also a CB (certification body) of quality and environmental
management system recognized by OAA (Argentina), Inn (Chile) and Inmetro
(Brazil) and a member of i-qnet.
Before the certificate is approved, a "pre certificate factory
inspection" is required. Once the certificate is approved, further factory
inspections are required.
IRAM takes effect after the holder
has paid the certification fee, unless it is revoked because it does not meet
certain contractual requirements or certification marks, or the holder requires
it.
In
order to ensure the safe use of electrical appliances by the public, Argentina
requires that the electrical products sold on the market must meet the
corresponding safety regulations. Argentina issued a resolution on February 16,
1998 to establish a compulsory certification system to make the electrical
products sold in the Argentine market meet the minimum safety requirements. The
implementation of the system is divided into three stages:
Phase I:
Certificate of conformity(Certificate
of Conformity)
The
certification at this stage is similar to the CE certification in Europe. All
electrical products entering the Argentine market need to have a certificate of
conformity, which is commonly referred to as CE certificate.
Phase
II: type approval (Type
Approval)
The product
shall obtain the type approval certificate issued by IRAM after being tested in
the approved laboratory of IRAM. Type approval only requires safety test
without Factory review, but no safety certification mark can be used on the
product.
Phase
Ⅲ: product
certification(Product
Certification)
At this
stage, all products sold in the Argentine market must obtain the national
certification mark. The "s" mark can be used for certified products.
At present,
Argentina's certification is in the transition to the third stage, i.e. product
certification, and the type approval certificate is still acceptable in
Argentina. However, from 2001 to 2002, the product will gradually complete the
transition to the certification stage.
The first step of
certification is, of course, to select the appropriate certification body and
laboratory. IRAM is a certification body in Argentina that has cooperative
relationship with multinational certification bodies. Details of IRAM can be
found in www.iram.com.ar Found in,
except that the site is only available in Spanish. IRAM accepts CB reports from
most NCBs covering differences in Argentina.
The tested
prototype is prepared according to 220V / 50Hz, and the power cord plug meeting
the requirements of Argentine standard IRAM 2073 is adopted.
After the
prototype is tested according to the corresponding IEC standards, NCB will
issue CB report. The application, letter of authorization, importer's
declaration, product design drawing, parameters, electrical circuit diagram,
product photo, Spanish nameplate and English instruction manual were also
submitted to IRAM along with the report.安规与电磁兼容网
To use the
"s" mark on the product, a factory review is also required to ensure
the consistency of production. After the report provided to IRAM is qualified,
the product can use the "s" mark.
IRAM
safety mark is a compulsory (except exempted products) certification mark in
Argentina.
The resolution 92 / 98 adopted by
Argentina in 1998 established the certification system as compulsory. From
December 31, 2002, all controlled products must be evaluated by the
certification authority recognized by Argentina accreditation organization (OAA)
to see whether they meet the relevant standards.
The manufacturer can attach
Argentine s mark to the products conforming to the standard, and the product
evaluation is carried out according to IEC standard plus Argentine difference
or Argentine standard. In fact, most of the provisions of IEC standard have
been adopted in the development of IRAM standard.
The 92 / 98 resolution is implemented in several stages. Since December 1,
2003, mandatory safety requirements have been gradually set for different types
of products
