ETL SEMKO is part
of Intertek Testing Services, Inc., the world's largest product and commodity
testing organization with 240 laboratories and 469 offices in 93 countries in
North America, Europe and Asia. ETL SEMKO provides testing and certification of
product safety, EMC testing, product performance testing, as well as
registration of quality management systems for a variety of industries such as
pharmaceuticals, HVAC, appliances, telecommunications, aviation, automation,
semiconductors, building materials, energy generation systems, etc.
Any electrical, mechanical or electromechanical product bearing the
ETL inspection mark indicates that it has been tested to comply with the relevant
industry standards. Each industry has different testing standards, so be sure
to consult a professional for specific product requirements. ETL inspection
marks are widely used in cable products, indicating that the relevant tests
have been passed.
ETL certification is required for export to the United
States and Canada. The ETL mark indicates that the product has passed the NRTL
or SCC accreditation tests in Canada. Intertek is one of the few
license-issuing organizations recognized by OSHA and SCC. Our company
cooperates with Intertek, acting for ETL certification. ETL mark recognition is
equivalent to the UL or CSA mark and complies with the relevant safety
standards. The ETL listing mark means that a product has met the minimum
requirements of the product safety standard. In addition, the ETL mark
indicates that the manufacturer's production site meets a certain range of
standard requirements, and learns to follow up with regular factory audits to
ensure continuous consistency. ETL has been around for more than 100 years. The
three letters ETL are short for Electrical Testing Labs, founded by inventor
Mr. Edison in 1896. ETL stands for innovative, influential, independent and
open product testing and extensive experience.
ETL is the exclusive logo of Intertek, the world's
leading quality and safety services company, with a history dating back to
1896. After the American inventor Edison founded the Lamp Testing Bureau (Lamp
Testing Bureau), it was renamed "Electrical Testing Laboratories" in
1904, that is, today's ETL, which enjoys a high reputation in the United States
and the world. Since its founding more than a century ago, ETL has evolved into
a diverse laboratory, It is also listed as a National Recognized Testing
Laboratory by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
Laboratory-NRTL). Meanwhile, The Standards Council of Canada-SCC also
recognizes ETL as an Accredited Certification Body and an Accredited Testing
organization Organization), recognized as Canada's independent product safety
certification organization. SEMKO was founded in Sweden in 1925, and was
originally a compulsory safety certification unit approved by the Swedish
government, which can be said to be the Swedish Inspection Bureau. SEMKO is one
of the first safety testing organizations in the world and is listed as a
nationally accredited laboratory by the Swedish Board for Accreditation and
Conformity Assessment-SWEDAC. It is a Notified Body under several EU directives
and the test body that issues the largest number of test and certification
reports under the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)CB program.
SEMKO was acquired by Intertek in 1994.
Federal authorities in the United States do not have
any mandatory certification requirements for electrical products, and recognize
most certification bodies, including ETL, UL, etc. In fact, as long as the NRTL
is recognized by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), it
can provide independent evaluation, testing and certification services for
electrical products and gas (oil) products according to current safety
standards.
Like UL and CSA, ETL can test and issue ETL
certification marks according to UL standards or U.S. national standards, and
can also test and issue composite certification marks according to UL standards
or U.S. national standards and CSA standards or Canadian standards. The
"us" at the bottom right of the ETL logo means it applies to the
United States, the "c" at the bottom left means it applies to Canada,
and having both "us" and "c" applies to both countries.
Any electrical, mechanical or electromechanical
product with the ETL mark indicates that the product has met the minimum
requirements of the generally recognized product safety standards in the United
States and Canada, it is tested by the Intertek National Recognized Testing
Laboratory (NRTL), in line with the relevant national standards; It also means
that the production plant agrees to receive strict regular inspections to
ensure the consistency of product quality and can be sold to the U.S. and
Canadian markets. For distributors, retailers and consumers, it means that they
buy products that have been tested and certified by third parties.
