Efficiency CEC certification introduction

CEC certification is
an Appliance Efficiency Regulation legally implemented by the California Energy
Commission on December 30, 2005. The purpose of the implementation of the regulation
is to improve the efficiency of electricity products, save energy, reduce gas
emissions and greenhouse effect.
With more and more electronic products
appearing in daily life, "saving energy" will become an urgent issue
that all people must face in the 21st century. On July 1, 2006, the California
Energy Commission (CEC) will implement new mandatory standards for the energy
efficiency of AC-DC and AC-AC external power supplies, which will affect almost
all electronic products.
The standard will cover all products that use external power supplies (such as
chargers and adapters), including mobile phones, home cordphones, portable
music players, handheld game consoles, toys, etc., and require these products
to use energy in a more efficient way during standby and use.
This means that after mid-2006, all
transformers, external power supplies, adapters, and chargers used and sold in
the United States will have to change their design.
In addition to saving energy, CEC's new specifications will also have a
significant impact in terms of environmental protection. According to the
company, if all of California's external power supplies complied with the new
standards, the state would save more than 360,000 tons of carbon dioxide
emissions per year, the equivalent of 60,000 cars.
The regulation stipulates that
electrical products sold in California must first meet the equipment energy
efficiency regulations, which specify energy efficiency index requirements,
measurement methods, and phased implementation plans for 58 categories of
electrical products. According to the requirements of this regulation,
electrical products must be tested by qualified laboratories in accordance with
the corresponding regulations or standards in the United States, and can be
sold in California.
CEC is a mandatory application certification program in California.
Related control products such as Power
Supply, if they want to be sold in California, USA, must obtain CEC
certification before July, 2006. If the Appliance cannot meet the requirements
of the new Appliance Efficiency Regulation, it is prohibited to be sold in
California, USA.
